Introduction :

Patna is a great place of pilgrimage for the Sikhs. It is the birth-place of Guru Govind Singh, the tenth Guru. A very fertile arched stretch of land along the bank of the Ganga, the history and heritage of modern day Patna go back well over two millennia. Like Delhi, Patna too had been the regal seat of governance for successive kingdoms since ancient times. Even today it is the capital city of the state of Bihar's.

History :

Patna is one of the oldest cities in India. Very few cities in India have had so many names as this holy city.
The well-known ancient names of Patna were Pataliputra, Kusumapura and Pushpapura.The Greeks called it Palibothra.The history of Patna starts from the year 493 BC when Ajatshatru, the king of Magadh, fortified a small village Pataligrama, which latter came to be known as Pataliputra. Located on the high bank of the river Ganges, the city was established by the son of Ajatshatru, Udayi.
In the years that followed, the city saw many dynasties that ruled the Indian subcontinent from there. Pataliputra reached its pinnacle of glory under the Mauryas and became one of the most important capital cities. Patna became the capital of Bihar when India attained independence in 1947.
